    Man dead after vehicle strikes wild hogs in Starr County, DPS says

    STARR COUNTY, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — A man is dead after a vehicle struck a group of wild hogs and lost control in Starr County, authorities said.

    According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at 7:31 a.m. Thursday.

    DPS stated a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was travelling east of FM 2686 in Starr County. Preliminary information stated that the vehicle struck a deer, but an update from DPS stated the Tahoe struck eight wild hogs with its front end, causing it to veer off the roadway.

    The Tahoe then lost control, rolled over and struck a fence. The vehicle came to rest, causing damage to a ranch fence and electrical pole.

    DPS identified the driver as 35-year-old Jose Guadalupe Garza Jr. of Rio Grande City. Garza was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    The case remains under investigation.
