Carroll County senior Ashlyn Newman broke two school records April 17 in the Lady Cavaliers’ 7-1 non-district road victory at Galax.

Newman, who is now six goals shy of tying Adrienne Harris’s school record of 71 career goals, set new CCHS records for most goals in a game (six) and most points in a game (12) as the Lady Cavs improved to 6-1 overall. Galax scored first in the opening minutes before Carroll reeled off seven straight goals to win going away.

Newman responded with a pair of goals before the half to put the Cavs in front 2-1. The first goal came off an assist from fellow captain Karmen Smith. Newman’s second goal was unassisted and Carroll would not surrender the lead.

Newman added four of Carroll’s second-half goals to complete the rout of the Maroon Tide. Newman made it 3-1 early in the second half with a goal on a penalty kick. Teammate Callie Harris assisted Newman on the next two goals to build the Cavalier lead to 5-1.

Harris, who finished with three assists, added a goal to make it 6-1 as she scored on an assist from Alexis Sheffey. Harris then assisted Newman for her record-breaking sixth goal of the night. Newman’s six goals and 12 points were both school records, breaking Adrienne Harris’s previous record of 11 points (five goals, one assist).
