Bleacher Report got the headlines exactly right

Those who know, know that the content you see on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, is primarily content you spend the most time looking at. They utilize an algorithm to show you what they believe you will be most likely to look at the longest.

A review of my Bleacher Report headlines early this morning makes it clear they do the same thing.

It informs me right away that Golden State lost to Sacramento in the play-in game of the playoffs marking an official end to their season and dynasty. Steph Curry is still not to be doubted, but Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are far past their prime and can no longer be counted on consistently.

Soon entering his prime is LeBron James, who apparently overcame an explosive performance by Zion Williamson last night before the latter left the game hurt, and led his Lakers past the Pelicans in the play-in game. LeBron is an elite physical specimen who seemingly doesn’t get injured and Zion is also an elite physical specimen who seemingly can’t stay healthy.

The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders are now scheduled to face off in the first round of the playoffs. The ‘Canes have won as many games this season as any team not named The Rangers. It’s apparently a good time to be a hockey fan in New York.

I understand that hockey has still not become wildly popular, especially if you live here in North Carolina like me, but I can’t think of a better playoffs format in sports. Nothing matches the excitement of a collegiate style one-and-done tournament; however hockey playoffs are, in my opinion, the least predictable of all the professional sports and it leads to plenty of excitement for those of us who care.

The next link I see on my Bleacher Report timeline is a report out of Miami claiming that the Dolphins are “100% committed” to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. I can assure you I am not. I’m the fool who would trade him for a first round pick and get a rookie quarterback in this draft.

I believe Tua is a very accurate quarterback and was a great value for his price, but now that the rookie contract is coming to an end, Tua has to be paid well or let go and I’d rather we not pay him well. I’m apparently in the minority.

Bleacher Report provided a link detailing the winners and losers of the WNBA draft earlier this week. I didn’t think they had any losers.

The March Madness on the women’s side drew massive ratings and many of those biggest stars have now been drafted into the WNBA. Equality isn’t here but it’s on the way and I can tell because the last few weeks have provided a plethora of talking heads on television talking about women’s basketball while knowing very little about it. It’s the same thing ESPN does for almost all sports not named football and isn’t that true equality?

I had to scroll pretty far down my timeline to get past all the LeBron and Curry “chatter” to see that the roster has been finalized by USA Basketball for the upcoming Olympics in Paris. Let’s hope they can assemble a team better than the one who finished fourth-place in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

You may be wondering why I didn’t mention baseball at all. It’s because Bleacher Report’s algorithm is working exactly as it should.
