School years are winding down, and with the last weeks of April here, and May just around the corner, prom season has arrived.
This can be a happy time for teens, but for some it can also be a stressful time, as they try to scrape together enough money for their prom dresses and suits. There is help for students who can't afford prom attire.
Two Henderson County schools have programs that offer prom dresses for girls and suits for boys. A little information about each is listed below.
North Henderson's Gilded Knight
When: March 20
Where: North Henderson High School
More information: Now in its third year, the event began in 2022, thanks to English teacher Julie Hart. She said she was inspired to start the event at North due to the program at West Henderson, which started in 2016. The event is usually held in April but was moved up a month this year.
East Henderson's Say Yes to the Dress
When: 3:15 p.m. April 18
Where: East's media center
More information: This is the second year of the event in which used prom dresses are donated, then given away to students who can't afford to buy a dress.
