District 10 All-Star selections: The Erie Times-News staff picked the 24 District 10 Boys Basketball All-Stars based on their performance from the entire season with special emphasis on the postseason and the coaches' all-region selections. The D-10 All-Stars will be invited to the Northwestern Pennsylvania High School Sports Awards show on June 24 at Erie’s Warner Theater. The Boys Basketball Player of the Year will be announced at the event.

Small School All-Stars

Jalen Wood

Franklin

sr., 5-10, point guard

• Wood had a breakout senior season as he led the Knights with 17.6 points per game. He ran one of the top offenses in District 10 and helped Franklin reach the state final in Hershey. Wood was one of the top outside shooters in D-10 this past winter with 71 3-pointers, which was tied for third overall in D-10.

Nate Edwards

Girard

sr., 6-0, guard

• Edwards, a Penn State Behrend recruit, was a big-time leader for the YellowJackets this season. He averaged 16.1 points per game to lead Girard to the District 10 Class 3A title and a trip to the PIAA semifinals. Edwards has not only been a solid scorer this year, but he was a top passer in District 10 and defender as well.

Avery Collins

Erie First Christian

so., 6-0, guard

• Collins had a breakout freshman season to help the Eagles win a District 10 championship. Although Erie First struggled this season, Collins continued to dominate the competition. He led all of District 10 with 24.1 points per game and likely will go over 1,000 career points as a junior. He was in the top 15 in D-10 with 52 3-pointers and second in D-10 with a free-throw percentage of 82.7 percent.

Damon Curry

Franklin

sr., 6-5, guard

• Curry finished his impressive career as one of the top scorers in Franklin history. He averaged 17 points per game and passed the ball more when defenses collapsed on him. Curry was the District 10 player of the year last year and followed it up with another big season to attract plenty of attention from colleges.

Danny Odem

Farrell

so., 5-10, guard

• Odem had a big sophomore season as he scored 17.4 points per game for the Region 1 champion. He was voted the Region 1 player of the year and was a key part of the Steelers' success this season. Odem scored 21 and 25 points in the first two rounds of the state playoffs before scoring 27 in a PIAA quarterfinal loss to Imani Christian.

Parker Schmidt

Cambridge Springs

sr., 6-5, center

• Schmidt was seventh overall in District 10 with 19.5 points per game. He was voted to the all-region first team and was a big part of Cambridge Springs winning 18 games this year and reaching the PIAA playoffs. He also finished his career with more than 1,000 points for the Blue Devils.

Cole Buckley

Franklin

sr., 6-3, guard

• Buckley was a big-time player throughout the PIAA playoffs. Coach Jason Fulmer said in Hershey that the Knights wouldn't have reached the state finals without Buckley. He scored 11 points per game including games of 18, 10, 24, 14 and 20 points in the state playoffs. He had 20 points in Hershey as Franklin came up just a few points short of a state title.

Kenny Godoy

Girard

so., 6-0, guard

• Godoy emerged as a perfect complement to Nate Edwards as the two made up one of the toughest guard combinations in District 10. Godoy helped lock down opposing guards and scored 14.6 points per game. With Edwards graduating in the spring, Godoy could take over as one of the top guards in Erie County.

Kellen Burroughs

Iroquois

so., 6-6, forward

• Burroughs stood out this season among a group of talented underclassmen at Iroquois. He scored 16 points in a historic win over Cambridge Springs to win the District 10 Class 2A championship. Burroughs also had 15 points in the Braves' PIAA playoff loss. He scored 11.8 points per game to lead Iroquois this season.

Daemyin Mattocks

Mercer

sr., 5-10, guard

• Mattocks is all-district in both football and basketball as an all-around dominant athlete for the Mustangs. He averaged 16.2 points per game this winter and was voted the Region 2 player of the year. Mattocks left his mark in several sports for Mercer and played a big role in 20 wins this year for the Mustangs.

Walker Carroll

Cochranton

so., 6-0, guard

• Cochranton was one of the top scorers in District 10 among the small schools. He scored 17.4 points per game which was top 15 in D-10 overall and third among the Class 2A schools. Carroll has emerged as a three-sport standout for the Cardinals and could be in for two more big seasons on the basketball court.

Austin Hanson

Eisenhower

fr., 5-11, guard

• Hanson had a breakout freshman season with 15.8 points per game. He was the top-scoring freshman in all of District 10 and was voted the Region 3 player of the year. Hanson was also third overall in D-10 in free-throw percentage at 82.7 percent. He could help the Knights make a turnaround over the next few years.

Big School All-Stars

Tyler Grove

McDowell

sr., 6-6, guard/forward

• Grove was one of the top scorers in District 10 this past winter with 22.6 points per game. He went over 1,000 career points as a senior and helped McDowell win the D-10 Class 6A title and make a deep run in the PIAA playoffs. Grove is headed to IUP in the fall after leaving his mark at McDowell.

Amaree Pickens

Cathedral Prep

sr., 6-3, guard

• Pickens overcame an early-season injury to be one of the top players in the area as a senior. He averaged 13.8 points per game and was a constant problem for opposing defenses. Pickens scored 21 points in the District 10 Class 5A championship win over Meadville and had 25 points in a PIAA playoff loss to Fox Chapel.

Jaheim Mims

Erie High

sr., 5-8, guard

• Mims stood out for the Royals throughout the season and averaged 10.9 points per game. He scored 20 points in a win over McDowell during region play and scored 15 points in the D-10 Class 6A championship game. Mims was a leader for Erie High and leaves a big hole with graduation this spring.

Jack Burchard

Meadville

jr., 5-10, guard

• Burchard had a big junior season and averaged 21.9 points per game. He went over 1,000 career points this past year and could finish as one the top scorers in Meadville history. He makes up an impressive duo with Lucas Luteran and the two of them could make Meadville one of the top teams in District 10 next year.

Nando Mirarchi

Cathedral Prep

so., 5-11, guard

• With Amaree Pickens dealing with an injury, Mirarchi stepped up as a leader for the Ramblers this season. He led Prep with 14 points per game as one of the top point guards in the area. He knocked down 42 3-pointers and put together several clutch performances for Prep this winter.

Brady Berdine

Warren

sr., 6-2, guard

• Berdine is a multisport standout and has committed to playing baseball at Gannon. He averaged 17.5 points per game as one of the top scorers in District 10 overall. He had games of 18, 28 and 20 points in three District 10 playoff games, and he scored 22 points in a PIAA playoff loss to North Catholic.

Lucas Luteran

Meadville

jr., 6-1, guard

• Luteran was second on Meadville in scoring with 20.4 points per game and one of the top scorers in District 10 as well. He is on pace to go over 1,000 points as a senior and led D-10 with 77 3-pointers as a junior. Luteran is also a top 10 free-throw shooter in D-10 at 78.6 percent.

Josh Book

Slippery Rock

jr., 6-4, forward

• Book was the fifth-leading scorer in District 10 with 21 points per game. He was voted the Region 5 player of the year. He was a force in the paint for the Rockets and was constantly putting together double-doubles with points and rebounds. He will be a top player to watch next winter.

Brett Loughry

Grove City

sr., 6-4, guard

• Even on a team loaded with talent, Loughry managed to stand out with a big season. He averaged 16.8 points per game this winter and knocked down 57 3-pointers. He played a big role in the Eagles sharing the region title.

Tommy Nyquist

Warren

sr., 5-9, guard

• Nyquist is another multisport standout for the Dragons and is headed to Alfred University to play football. Nyquist was one of the top point guards in District 10 this season as he averaged 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game as the Dragons won the D-10 Class 4A championship.

Rylan Dye

Hickory

sr., 6-0, guard

• Dye was a leader for the Hornets this season as he helped them win 17 games. Dye paced Hickory with 15.2 points per game as one of the top guards in Mercer County. Dye had five games of 20 points or more as he came up with big performances in big situations.

Derek Douglas

Sharon

jr., 6-0, guard

• Douglas put together a big junior season on a team full of talented players. He averaged 13.4 points per game for the Tigers this past winter as a leader and one of the top guards in the area. Douglas has been an impact player the past few years and will be a big player to watch as a senior.
