9 dead dogs found in vacant home; man charged

JACKSON TOWNSHIP , Ohio (WJW) — Police officers investigating an animal cruelty complaint at a local home found nine dead dogs.

The complaint came on Sunday, April 14, according to a Tuesday news release from Jackson Township Police Department . Authorities obtained a search warrant for the home in the 6800 block of Lake O’ Springs Avenue, which appeared to be vacant.

Police officers and Stark County Humane Society workers recovered the nine dead dogs from inside and outside the home, according to the release.

Detectives obtained a warrant for the home’s previous resident, 54-year-old Tome Stambolziovski, who’s now charged with eight felony counts of prohibitions concerning companion animals.

Animal advocates call for change to Ohio law after viral video

Stambolziovski was handed a $100,000 bond at a Tuesday hearing in Massillon Municipal Court, Stark County court records show.

Stambolziovski was previously indicted on animal cruelty charges out of Massillon earlier this year in Stark County Common Pleas Court, records show. He pleaded not guilty at a hearing earlier this month and is due back in court in that case on April 23.
