Skeletal remains found in Talladega National Forest identified

CALHOUN COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Skeletal remains found in January in the Talladega National Forest have been identified as a Talladega County man.

According to Sheriff Matthew Wade with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, on January 29, 2024, deputies were notified of skeletal remains found by a hunter in a rugged area of the forest near the Cleburne County line.

The remains have since been positively identified as Nicholas Weston Turley.

According to Wade, a vehicle connected to Turley had previously been located on a forest service road near where the remains were found.

At this time, the manner of death is undetermined and still under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.
