JACKSON COUNTY ( KSNT ) – One person was injured trying to save a pair of motorcycles from a burning barn in rural northeast Kansas.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says first responders were told of a barn fire around 11:30 a.m. on April 15 for an address in the 14200 block of 334th Road near the Jackson/Brown County line. A local homeowner heard an explosion and saw his barn was on fire.

The homeowner tried to save two motorcycles from the barn, suffering minor injuries from burning debris. A passerby saw what was happening and helped the homeowner escape the barn fire, according to Morse.

‘Workplace concerns’ lead to exit of Junction City police chief

Morse says 911 was dialed with local first responders reporting to the scene. Minor explosions coming from ammunition cooking off in the barn could be heard as first responders arrived on scene.

No one else was injured in the fire. The barn is a total loss and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
