BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) Several shots were fired into a parked Jeep in the area of the Route 40 Lumberjaxe Sports Bar in Belmont over the weekend.

Sheriff Dave Lucas says it happened at approximately 1:30 Sunday morning.

He says deputies responded, took statements, and the sheriff’s department has identified a suspect, but no arrest has been made yet.

He says the Jeep was damaged so badly it could not be driven.

Officials say this was a road rage incident and the man who shot the vehicle wanted to exit Lumberjaxe but because it was so full he began to start shooting.

“And he exchanged words with another person and he backed out onto Route 40 and brought out a 9 millimeter pistol, shot in the air a couple times, then he shot at a car. It’s just a very very sad situation. These people think they can go to weapons over road rage is the worst part.”

Sheriff Lucas says the case is now in the hands of his detective division and the prosecutor.

He expects an arrest will occur soon.
