THP: Infant passenger, teen driver injured in Greene Co. crash

GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – A juvenile driver and an infant passenger were both injured after a crash on Interstate 81 in Greene County that prompted a medical helicopter response, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).

According to a preliminary THP crash report, a 2005 Honda Pilot was heading south on I-81 near mile marker 37 around 10:30 a.m. Monday when it ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle began to rotate clockwise after leaving the road.

The report states the Honda hit a tree and came to an uncontrolled rest facing north.

The driver was identified only as a 17-year-old. A passenger in the Honda was described as an infant less than a year old by the THP.

Both were injured in the crash, according to the report.

Charges against the driver are pending.

TDOT spokesperson Mark Nagi stated in a social media post at 10:53 a.m. that a medical helicopter had been called to the scene Monday morning.
