    Tornado Watch added to severe weather day Wednesday

    The National Weather Service in Mobile has added a Tornado Watch for the area in connection with severe weather expected across the region on Wednesday.

    The “Watch” is now in effect (as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10) through 5 p.m. today. The watch area covers Escambia, Baldwin, Conecuh, Monroe, Covington, Baldwin, Clarke, Crenshaw, Lowndes, Wilcox, Butler, Dallas, Marengo, Sumter, Choctaw, Mobile and Washington Counties in Alabama.

    In addition to the newly-added tornado watch, NWS has also issued a flood watch in effect beginning at 1 p.m. today and continuing through Wednesday night. Areas included in the flood watch are:

    Baldwin Central, Baldwin Coastal, Baldwin Inland, Butler, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Covington, Crenshaw, Escambia, Mobile Central, Mobile Coastal, Mobile Inland, Monroe, Washington and Wilcox; In northwest Florida, including the following areas, Escambia Coastal, Escambia Inland, Okaloosa Coastal, Okaloosa Inland, Santa Rosa Coastal and Santa Rosa Inland, and southeast Mississippi, including the following areas, George, Greene, Perry, Stone and Wayne.

    Impacts from heavy rain will include excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. NWS also offered the following additional details: - Several rounds of thunderstorms with very heavy rain are expected to move across the region Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening. Widespread rain totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected with some locations potentially receiving as much as 6 to 8 inches of rain in a short time. This could result in areas of flash flooding. Please stay weather aware and have a way to receive warnings as they are warranted by this severe weather system.
