MUNCIE, Ind. — Sheriff's deputies on Thursday were investigating the discovery of a body in a field in northeastern Delaware County.

A farmer found the body — believed to be that of an adult male — in the field, near Delaware County Roads 1100 North and 700 East, before 3 p.m.

Sheriff Tony Skinner said about 5 p.m. he had no immediate indication of what had caused the man's death. The body was apparently believed to have been at that location for an extended period.

Skinner said a deputy had arranged to have a vehicle, apparently abandoned, towed from near the scene in January. Efforts were being made Thursday to determine who that vehicle belonged to.

Delaware County Coroner Gavin Greene said a member of his staff had been sent to the scene.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Zach Craig said his office had also been notified of the body's discovery.
