GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two were hospitalized after a camper explored in the north Belmont area Monday night, authorities say.

According to Gaston County officials, the incident occurred on March 25 on the 1000 block of Ferrell Grove Road off of Hickory Grove Road around 9:55 p.m.

Emergency personnel transported a man and woman to CaroMont Medical Center; the man sustained more serious injuries than the woman, officials said.

The woman was released Tuesday morning, however, the man was taken to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist’s Burn Center with second- and third-degree burns to the head and face.

Investigators determined the explosion was caused by a propane leak from a hot water heater. Aside from the camper being damaged, the explosion blew out windows and caused some damage to the house next to the camper, officials said. The fire was put out by 10:20 p.m.
