Rep. Ronny Jackson Demoted By Navy For ‘Inappropriate’ Behavior During Time As Trump’s White House Doctor

The U.S. Navy demoted Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) from “retired rear admiral” to “retired Navy captain” due to “inappropriate behavior” when he served as White House physician under former President Donald Trump , a new report revealed.

The Washington Post brought the “previously unreported decision” to light Thursday , citing “a current defense official and a former U.S. official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive personnel move.”

The demotion stemmed from a 2021 Pentagon inspector general report that “substantiated allegations about his inappropriate behavior as a White House physician.”

The Post reported:

A Navy official confirmed that the service took unspecified action against Jackson in the wake of the 2021 inspector general’s report, which found that Jackson berated subordinates in the White House medical unit, “made sexual and denigrating statements” about a female subordinate, consumed alcohol inappropriately with subordinates and consumed the sleep drug Ambien while on duty as the president’s physician. At the time of the report, Jackson was classified by the Navy as a rear admiral (lower half), a one-star admiral that is distinct from the two-star rear admiral position.

“The substantiated allegations in the DoDIG [Department of Defense inspector general] investigation of Rear Adm. (lower half) Ronny Jackson are not in keeping with the standards the Navy requires of its leaders and, as such, the secretary of the Navy took administrative action in July 2022,” Lt. Cmdr. Joe Keiley , a Navy spokesman, said via email.

Jackson dismissed the inspector general’s findings as “politically motivated” in his July 2022 memoir, but did not reveal anything about a demotion.

As Trump’s physician, Jackson made news in 2018 when he touted the then-president’s performance on a cognitive exam , and joked to reporters that “the then-71-year-old president could ‘live to be 200 years old’ if he only ate healthier.'”

The biography section of Jackson’s congressional website states, “In December 2019, after 25 years of distinguished service to his country, Dr. Jackson retired from the United States Navy as a Rear Admiral.” There is no mention of his demotion to captain.
