A woman arrested for DWI Sunday died in the St. Tammany Parish Jail late Monday night.
The STPSO announced the death today.
"Sheriff’s detectives are investigating following an apparent medical-related death of an inmate from the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center," Sergeant Suzanne Carboni said in a news release.
She says that shortly before midnight, 48-year-old Cathy Lange-Sanchez "suffered an obvious medical seizure while in the female holding cell at the jail."
Doctors pronounced the arrestee dead at a local hospital.
"The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office was called to the hospital and took custody of the deceased for autopsy," Carboni said. "Lange-Sanchez was arrested by State Police on Sunday (September 24) and was booked for Driving While Intoxicated and other traffic offenses."
