Loyd Star home consumed by fire
By Hunter Cloud,
LOYD STAR — Lincoln County Volunteer Firefighters spent over two hours suppressing a house fire at 968 Macedonia Road. No one is believed to have been in the home at the time of the fire.
11 trucks arrived on scene including four tankers. Heucks Retreat, Loyd Star, New Site, Bogue Chitto, Hog Chain and Zetus VFD fought against the inferno. A fireman from Strong Hope VFD was also there to help fight the flames.
The fire spread through the structure and continued to burn despite the best efforts of first responders. A sign in front of the home said a senior from Loyd Star Attendance Center lives there.
We will update this story with how you can help those impacted by the fire.
One fireman on scene said “We need more volunteers.”
Volunteer Fire Departments have run all over the county fighting fires over the past week.
Lincoln County EMA Director Chris Reid said people can volunteer by contacting their local fire department or by calling the Lincoln County EMA office at 601-833-8561.
REX Lumber donated bottles of water to the firemen. One of REX’s employees Jessica Crowsey is a volunteer firefighter with Loyd Star VFD. She said people need to stop burning and to be cautious. A call for a grass fire in Bogue Chitto came over the radio while crews were working the house fire on Macedonia.
“We dedicate our time and energy for free to fight these fires,” Crowsey said. “It is all donated and it’s a thanks to good people who do a lot of good. We need people to join and help.”
She has been with Loyd Star for about a year and a half. March of 2024 will be two years with the department. One of her neighbors had a fire so she and her son went to help out and it sparked a desire to join the VFD.
“We need people to join and there are a lot of jobs you can do,” Crowsey said. “You don’t have to hold a hose, you can watch the trucks and do other jobs to help fight the fires.”
