On Monday, Sept. 11, the Marathon High golf team hosted its first home match of the season against Coral Shores and Key West at The Florida Keys Country Club, with the Conchs wearing red, the Hurricanes in white and the Dolphins in blue to honor those lost in terrorist attacks upon the United States 22 years prior.
During the match, the Dolphins turned in the top two finishers with Michael Merryman going for a round-low 44, while teammate Mason Thornton scored a 47. There was a three-way tie for third, with Hurricanes Tanel Irons and Aidan Althouse, along with the Conchs’ Jackson Barroso, all posting a 48. The Dolphins had four other top-10 finishers with Dylan Ziels and Aiden Richard notching a 54, Cullen Coleman-Sayer a 54 and Leo Mendez a 55.
For the girls, Key West’s Claudia Sterling shot 44 for the low score of the round, Marathon’s Summer Haines came in with a 49, her lowest score of the season, and Coral Shores’ Gabby Thomas was third at 51.
The teams are scheduled to be back in action on Monday, Sept. 25, at the Ocean Reef Club and Thursday, Sept. 28, at the Key West Golf Club.
