Key West and baseball are synonymous, and during the last quarter century, the continued success of the high school’s program is largely attributed to legendary coach Ralph Henriquez, who during his 17 years with the Conchs has claimed three state titles, won more than 538 games and now is being inducted into the inaugural class of the High School Baseball Network Hall of Fame.
During his tenure, his Conch baseball teams have been ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation, with more than 120 of his players going on to sign college scholarships and 11 of his student-athletes drafted into the minor leagues straight out of high school. Henriquez also had coaching stints with the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees systems and has brought that all to Key West where he has continued to build a winning culture, while dealing with the expectations that come from living in a baseball town.
The High School Baseball Network will induct the first honorees on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. on the Nova Southeastern University campus.
