Radio host Jason Fitz was ‘shocked’ by ESPN layoff

Jason Fitz leaves ESPN on an upbeat note.

Fitz, 46, was among the roughly 20 talents laid off by ESPN last week as the network cuts costs amid pressure from parent company Disney.

Fitz, who most recently co-hosted on ESPN Radio in afternoons with former NFL wideout Harry Douglas, posted a video on Twitter on Wednesday addressing his job loss.

“As most of you know by now, ESPN parted ways on Friday with a ton of really talented people — and me,” Fitz said. “Didn’t see it coming, shocked, all of those things — of course.”

Nevertheless, he said that his prevailing mindset was one of gratitude.

“I’m thankful for what ESPN gave me, for the platform that I had, for the amazing people I got to work with behind the scenes and on camera and for the memories that I made.

“And I’m proud of the work that I did. I always tried to do the work, tried to remain kind, and do it all with some level of authenticity. I believe that’s all we can do, and at the end of the day, I gotta believe when the dust settles that’s what will serve me.

“I don’t know what’s next but what I do know is in the meantime my fandom of ESPN isn’t going anywhere. My friendships aren’t going anywhere. When I figure out what’s next, I hope you’ll come and hang out with me there.”

Fitz first joined ESPN in 2016, on the show “College Football Daily” on ESPNU.

In 2017, he began hosting a weekend radio show with Jordan Rodgers, and eventually became the host of “First Take, Your Take” — a “First Take” highlights show — in 2020.

He also hosted an ESPN Radio show with Sarah Spain for several years.

Prior to working at ESPN, Fitz played fiddle in the country music band The Band Perry.
