Horry County School Board Approved Historic Billion Dollar Budget Amount For 2023-24

The new budget amount does not require any tax increases for county residents.

The Horry County School Board approved a historic budget amount at their last meeting of the school year.

The board unanimously passed the first-ever budget of over a billion dollars for the next school year.

The new budget amount does not require any tax increases for county residents.

Significant additional funding includes the new paid parental leave that will use $1,371,726 from the General Fund, and out-sourcing substitute teachers that will use $2.3 million from the General Fund as well.

Additional funding in the new $1.04 budget will be put toward the following,

  • $6,991,293 from General Fund: All regular school district employees, including teachers, receives a STEP (longevity) increase or a 2% raise
  • $11,367,744 from General Fund: $2,500 salary increase to teacher/nurse salaries
  • $5,196,909 from General Fund: Hourly rate increase of $1.48/hour for support staff employees, a minimum of $15/hour
  •  $699,215 from General Fund: Bus driver salary increase
  • $325,000 from General Fund: Special needs bus monitors
  • $2,839,936 from General Fund: Staff to allow for elementary teachers’ unencumbered time
  • $5,828,180 General Fund: Additional staffing for student enrollment changes of approximately 660 new students
  • $766,908 General Fund: 8 additional ESOL teachers
