The case of 15-year-old Kaden Holland continues to raise concerning questions about a system that seems to have failed both the teen and the community.
Holland and two other boys are charged as adults in Prince George’s County for the caught-on-camera attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy on a school bus.
It’s alleged that in the video Holland is holding a gun he tried to fire three times point-blank at the victim.
Sources also said Holland is facing juvenile charges in the District for the murder of the sister of one of his co-defendants in the bus attack.
Now 7News has learned from multiple sources that Holland was already on probation for a prior gun charge at the time of those alleged crimes.
He should have been under the supervision of the state Department of Juvenile Services, and yet this is how Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks described the boy known on the streets and in his rap videos as 'Baby K':
“We can’t determine whether he was registered in school, where he lived,” Alsobrooks said. “This kid was roaming about apparently unsupervised and dangerous and armed.”
Our sources tell us Holland was not registered in any school district and had not been for several years.
7News asked the Department of Juvenile Services how that was possible and why they weren’t supervising the teen.
A spokesperson told us that state privacy laws prevent them from disclosing anything about Holland. So, we asked Prince George’s State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy.
“We all have to do better because our young people have to be in school, those who are on probation and actually have to be supervised, and if they are supposed to be participating in programs then they have to be accountable for participating in those programs,” Braveboy said.
Kaden Holland remains in jail on a no-bond status. Eventually, he’ll have a waiver hearing to determine if he’ll continue to be prosecuted as an adult or be moved back to juvenile court.
7News has also learned from multiple sources that detectives believe the 15-year-old boy had no parental involvement in his life.
