The Richland County Sheriff's Department is investigating two assaults at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Both incidents occurred on Sunday, according to deputies.
Deputies were called to the jail around 5:30 pm for a stabbing that had just occurred.
Officials say a 20-year-old inmate had sustained injuries during a fight with another inmate in one of the pods and was treated at the jail by medical staff.
Deputies were then notified of another incident that happened around 1:25 pm.
A 53-year-old inmate had been punched and stabbed during a fight with two other inmates, according to officials.
The 53-year-old was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Deputies recovered a shank in both incidents, former inmate Troy Stevenson who spent eight years behind those same walls say it's a dangerous environment for everyone.
Alvin S Glenn likes to put it on the news like it's the inmates, but it really doesn't be that. If you put good people in places that know how to deal with people it'll be straight.
Just two months ago, Richland County officials went public with plans to address conditions at the jail and pointed out critical staffing issues after state correction officials threated to take over if an improvement plan was not put together.
But Troy Stevenson says several correctional officers are part of the problem. He claims guards attacked him while he was at the jail.
You don't come to your job and make people feel uncomfortable just because they're in jail, you don't know what's going on. You're supposed to be the resource for them if they have problems, you can't talk to them.
Stevenson has since filed a lawsuit against the detention center, in all seven inmates have been injured in just a month.
Richland County Sheriff's Department continue to investigate these incidents.
