Friday, New Orleans leaders wore orange on the steps of city hall to call attention to the impacts of gun violence and honor the families of victims.
This comes just hours after three people were shot in the city overnight, including a woman killed in Broadmoor.
The New Orleans Police Department arrested 34-year-old Lostin Lee for shooting and killing a 34-year-old woman at the intersection of General Taylor and South Rocheblave Street.
Neighbors said Lee and the victim were in a relationship. At least one neighbor said she heard gunfire and loud screams; others said they heard absolutely nothing. And were shocked to see so many investigators on the scene last night when it happened.
Lee is being charged with second-degree murder.
Neighbors said they were stunned by the growing amount of perceived violence among women. Since January, analysts say at least a dozen women have been murdered.
Meanwhile, members from the New Orleans Health Department, along with doctors with UMC and other activists, gathered and shared resources as they work to fight back against gun violence.
They also announced the expansion of trauma recovery services this summer at UMC for those dealing with the mental impacts of gun violence.
