Kayla Brewer, the Cole County woman charged with the death of her two-month-old child, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for the death of her baby.
A Cole County Grand Jury indicted Brewer and her partner Jason Williams in February 2021 for the September 2020 death of their child after an autopsy found the infant died with "a significant amount" of meth in the infant's system.
A Cole County circuit judge originally sentenced Brewer to 10 years in prison but reduced the charges after she pled guilty.
Brewer's sentence was reduced to five years of supervised probation.
Brewer took the stand Tuesday afternoon with her newborn baby and agreed to all charges.
Editor's note: This story was updated to state that she pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
