OLEY TWP., Pa. - Barricades block off the Griesemer's Mill Bridge in Oley Township. It is one of Berks County's five historic covered bridges. The bridge dates back to the 1800s.

"At this time, the bridge is closed to traffic. The county has put out signs, notifying about that," said Jonathan Heintzman, public relations officer with County of Berks.

According to the Earl Township Volunteer Fire Company, first responders rushed to the scene of a crash at the bridge just after 9 p.m. on Monday night. Pictures from the fire company show a car teetering over the side. Heintzman said it is a bridge the county maintains.

"Department of Emergency Services was informed about the accident by an automated system with the car that was involved in the accident," said Heintzman

Fire officials said one man was in the car. The bridge is on Spangsville Road. It stretches 124 feet over the Manatawny Creek. Officials said the bridge will remain closed until further notice.

"The overall damage, the overall cost, the duration of repairs and things like that are still being evaluated," said Heintzman.
