Otters head coach Walt White said, "That is a good club. San Bernardino is a really good club. We are a really good club. I think games like this are going to be decided on the margins, little things here and there. I thought they played as well as they could play. I thought they came out swinging the bat very well, and I thought we did as well. We gave ourselves a chance."
The Otters put together a late rally after trailing the Coyotes by as many as seven runs in this game. CSUMB batters J.J. Engman and Chase Lindemann chipped in with home runs for the home team.
The team is not out of the championship race yet. The Otters must win two games in a row in order to advance to the NCAA Div. II Baseball Tournament.
White said, "We are a confident group. We can't wait to come back and play. We wish today was the doubleheader. We would love to be playing right now. We are going to go home. We are going to get some rest, be in a great mindset and be ready to play."
The first of those two games is Saturday, May 27, at noon at the Otters Sports Complex. If CSUMB wins, a decisive game three will be played later in the afternoon.
