Struggling retail chain Bed Bath & Beyond will slash nearly 1,300 jobs across the state, including hundreds in North Jersey, according to a notice filed with state regulators on Friday.

The jobs include ones in a warehouse for the beauty product Harmon stores in Totowa, a warehouse in Secaucus, an e-commerce fulfillment center in Port Reading and the corporate headquarters in Union, according to a state WARN notice. All told, 1,295 people are expected to lose their jobs — 572 in Port Reading on March 28, 262 in Totowa on April 1, 84 in Secaucus on April 5, and 377 in Union on April 9.

The move is intended to stave off a potential bankruptcy of the chain, which it warned was a possibility amid financial struggles.

The Bed, Bath & Beyond at 790 Route 46 in Parsippany, pictured on March 7, 2019, will be closing this summer.

In late August, Bed Bath & Beyond said it would shutter about 150 “lower-producing” stores nationwide and lay off about 20% of its staff. And it announced plans to eliminate all 50 Harmon stores.

Bed Bath & Beyond wasn't immediately available for comment.
