Law enforcement: Crime surge across MT in past 48 hours

Law enforcement across MT are reporting an increase in crime.

Bozeman police report multiple hard crimes in recent days: “Officers stopped a car Thursday evening and initiated a drug investigation. The driver gave consent to search the vehicle, and officers recovered meth, fentanyl, scales, and other items indicating distribution. The three occupants went to jail for intent to distribute and criminal possession of dangerous drugs. Friday, officers started by locating a felony probation absconder. The absconder was a violent offender who was found to be violating his requirements to register. He was held on a probation violation as well as a new felony,” according to Bozeman Police.

Officers were then called to an auto dealership for someone attempting to purchase a vehicle with a forged check. During the investigation, the suspect admitted to forgery and an attempted felony theft. The male was booked on several felony charges.

“Still on Friday, officers responded to a vehicle vs pedestrian accident. The car had fled the scene. Fortunately, the pedestrians did not sustain life-threatening injuries. Officers located the vehicle and its driver several blocks away, where they had crashed. The driver was investigated for DUI and found to be under the influence. The driver was arrested for felony Criminal Endangerment.

On Saturday, officers responded to a weapon disturbance at a residence. One of the occupants had threatened several other people with kitchen knives. That male was jailed for multiple counts of Assault with a Weapon.

Shortly after that weapon disturbance, an officer observed a vehicle accident on Huffine Ln. A second officer who was responding to assist observed a vehicle run a red light and attempted to stop the vehicle. That vehicle fled toward the crash scene before sliding off into the snow. They then reversed out of the snow, crashed into the patrol car and pushed it backward on the road. They fled again before crashing and being taken into custody for Criminal Endangerment. The driver was found to be intoxicated.

This doesn’t even cover half of it!,” said Bozeman police.

Billings police are still investigating an officer in lives shooting Saturday when a 35-year-old Billings woman allegedly took them on a high speed chase and then refused to leave her car and was wielding a handgun when she attempted to escape. Police report she fired at them and they fired back. She was declared dead at a local hospital a short time later.
