Cape Cod weather forecast: Work week starts iffy, but sun to break through

Eric Williams

Attention campers: the Cape Cod work week will begin with clouds and rain but with reasonably nice days to follow. Now get out there and achieve greatness!

Or, at least take time to notice the daffodils, now appearing all over the Cape, with cheery yellow blooms on the way. Monday will start cloudy, with rain in the forecast that night, according to the National Weather Service, with high temps nudging 50 degrees. Hold onto your hats: there is chance of SNOW Tuesday night. We'll be seeing clouds and rain give way to sun on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. So far the forecast calls for rain this weekend.

High tide rolls in at Pamet Harbor in Truro, surrounding the remains of the old railroad bed.

Temperatures are expected to be seasonable through that time frame -- mid to upper 40s during the day, dipping down to the 30s at night. So cranking up the wood stove at night might be a good idea to take the chill off. Although my wood supply is dwindling, yet another year of bad planning!

Has this March been warmer than usual on Cape Cod?

According to data from a Hyannis-based volunteer observer for the National Weather Service, temperatures on Cape Cod in March have averaged 43.9 degrees (through March 24). This is above the normal average temperature for March, which is 36.1 degrees. Of note, we have had no measurable snow so far this March, according to the Hyannis observer.

Check the radar!

One fun way to keep track of impending weather (especially storms) is to dial up the National Weather Service's Local KBOX Enhanced Radar Map for our region. It lets you see what might be coming and when it's going to arrive. This can be particularly helpful when tracking fast-moving summer thunderstorms and plus, the graphics are cool!
