How does Christopher Eubanks celebrate a big match win at the Miami Open? By carbo-loading for the next one.

The 26-year-old American says he's been on a meat lasagna kick lately, and if his on-court results in Miami are anything to go by, he likely won’t be changing his go-to “victory” meal anytime soon. Ranked No. 119, qualifier Eubanks scored the biggest victory of his career on Saturday, defeating No. 20 Borna Coric 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the third round at an ATP Masters 1000 for the first time.

We caught up with the Atlanta native at the Citi Taste of Tennis in Miami to talk about food, memories, and what exactly the “taste of tennis” really is.

Q: Tell me about a dish that tastes like your childhood?

EUBANKS: Oh wow, let me think. You know what? It's got to be Thanksgiving food. So like, turkey, dressing, mac and cheese, green beans, sweet potatoes, peach cobbler—just a real Southern-style Thanksgiving dinner.

Q: All homemade?

EUBANKS: All homemade, of course.

Q: Tell me about a dish that tastes like home to you now?

EUBANKS: Chick-fil-A. Easy.

Q: Ah, I see your “Atlanta” hat…

EUBANKS: Exactly, it’s perfect.

Q: What about a dish that tastes like victory?

EUBANKS: The taste of victory? It has to be lasagna. That’s what I eat when I’m at tournaments, and if I’m winning then I just have to go with the same thing. So winning tastes like a meat lasagna.

Q: And finally, what does tennis taste like?

EUBANKS: …What a question! (laughter) What is the real 'taste of tennis'? I’d say it’s a little sweet and savory. No, sweet and sour. It’s a bit of the good times and the bad, so it’s sweet and sour.
