GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Friends and Family Restaurant, which was destroyed by a fire on Feb. 21, has given an update on the investigation as well as future plans.
On March 22, Friends and Family Restaurant reported to their Facebook page that the investigation into the fire has wrapped up, and while it had not revealed the exact starting point for the fire, it had determined that it appears to have been started within a wall and then had spread to the attic.
The fire was fueled by the materials in the building, and many irreplaceable items were lost within.
The Friends and Family Restaurant said that the next step in their process to rebuild is the demolition of the existing structure, which is set to start next week. Preparations have been ongoing for the teardown, and they are actively working on a new floor plan for the new building.
The Facebook post said that the new layout will prioritize customer experience, while still providing its signature gift shop, private dining areas for parties, and an improved outdoor experience as well.
The restaurant hopes to be back and running by early 2024.
