The Alachua County School Public School (ACPS) district says they increased patrol at Buchholz High School Monday after an online threat over the weekend.
Alachua County Sheriff's Deputies arrested and charged a 15-year old-Buchholz student with felonies Friday. Deputies say an alarming Instagram post threatening Buchholz High School (BHS) was traced back to their residence.
"The start of 2023, yes this was the first major incident that we've had for a threat of school violence," Cpt. Chris Sims said.
He is the spokesperson for ACSO who says Sta'nicia Brown posted a cryptic message telling BHS not to come to school Monday or they could get shot.
Cpt. Sims says concerned parents and families reported the social media account to authorities.
"I never want a citizen or anyone who sees this information to call it a hoax. You're never going to know what the intentions were behind this person who made these posts," Sims said.
Brown is charged with: making a written or electronic threat of a mass shooting, false report of a use of a fire arm with a violent manner, and unlawful use of a two way communication device.
"What they learned is that the Instagram account that made those threats was created the same day earlier that afternoon," Sims said.
He says Brown denied creating or posting a threat but evidence showed otherwise.
"As they began looking through her cell phone... low and behold they would find the suspect Instagram account directly linked inside her cell phone," Sims said.
ACSO says brown is currently in the juvenile detention center.
A spokesperson from ACPS says that threats like this can result in serious consequences both legally and through the school district.
