Arsenal To Play Against Wayne Rooney's MLS All-Star XI At Audi Field On July 19

Arsenal are set to feature in the 2023 MLS All-Star game.

The last two years have seen the best players from Major League Soccer take on a combined XI of stars from Mexico's Liga MX.

But the format will now return to how it was between 2005 and 2019 when the MLS All-Stars played against a team from one of Europe's big leagues.

This year's fixture will take place in Washington DC at Audi Field on July 19.

DC United manager Wayne Rooney will coach the MLS All-Star team.

This will not be Rooney's first taste of an All-Star Game. The former England captain has played on both sides in previous editions of the glitzy event.

In 2011, Rooney was part of the Manchester United team that won 4-0 in New Jersey. Eight years later, he started for the MLS All-Stars in a 3-0 loss to Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal have also been involved in an All-Star Game before.

The Gunners beat an MLS XI including Didier Drogba, Andrea Pirlo, David Villa and Kaka in 2016.
