Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Group Therapy

Gran Turismo 7’s new set of Daily Races for the week is now available, with a trio of events for racing car categories running for the next seven days.

Race A once again uses the “No DR/SR” event format, resulting in no gain or loss of Driver or Sportsmanship Rating points during the race. That means you won’t face any consequences for bad or slow driving, nor any benefit for doing well, so it’s more or less a lobby race but on a set schedule.

It uses the Gr.4 cars, which are loosely based on the real-world GT4 category. They’re pretty much stripped-back road cars with some race grade parts, racing tires, and a low level of aerodynamic aids, resulting in a pretty eclectic field of machinery — although GT7’s Balance of Performance will tilt heavily towards using a front-wheel drive car this week.

You can select any Gr.4 car, but you’ll probably want an Audi TT if you have designs on racking up Sport Mode victories. Whichever car you pick, you’ll need Racing Hard tires for the eight-lap race of the short course version of Watkins Glen.

Speeds pick up significantly in Race B, which will send you to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for a four-lap sprint in Gr.2 cars.

These consist of some of the fastest tintops in the world, with the six Super GT cars — one each from Honda, Lexus, and Nissan for each of the 2008 and 2016 seasons — and the legendary Mercedes CLK-LM and McLaren F1 GTR.

Unusually, the race calls for Racing Soft tires only, and there’s no other special considerations of which you should be aware — just that Gr.2 cars mean high speeds and, if it all goes wrong, extremely violent accidents.

Finally Race C calls for Gr.3 cars, one of the core classes of the game and the flagship Manufacturers Cup. Again you have free choice of any of these race-bred machines — often sharing little more than a basic shape and some glass with their road-car siblings — for the event.

It’s a 14-lap run around the Reverse layout of Deep Forest Raceway, which will make for an interesting challenge with the uphill hairpin first turn and the awkward braking zones in the middle section.

You’ll need to use both the Racing Hard and Racing Medium tire during the race for at least one pass of the start/finish line out on track — with a one-minute post-race penalty for failing to do so.

Additionally there’s a 7x tire wear multiplier to consider, resulting in tires wearing seven times faster than normal, so you’ll need to get the most out of the softer Medium tires without pushing them so far that they lose pace compared to the Hard option. The 2x fuel consumption multiplier won’t play a significant role.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday March 27.
