CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Another day in Casper, another high school athlete signs their letter of intent to play sports at the collegiate level.

Kelly Walsh’s Gabriella Blumberg signed to continue her tennis career at Western New Mexico University.

One of the reasons that she chose to play here is for the level of competition. She said, “I want a college where I can challenge myself both academically and athletically. For athletically, it is one of the harder conferences. It is in the Lone Star Conference, where we play against teams like Texas, Arizona, California, and some other top division one schools as well as some very hard D-2.”

Blumberg won the 4A #1 singles State Championship in 2022 and did not lose a set in the process, while also ending the season a perfect 20-0.

She also won the 4A #2 singles State Championship in 2021 and in 2020, she took 3rd in the #1 doubles at the State Championship.

Due to her efforts on the courts, she earned All-State for the third time in her career this past season.

Once she finally chose her school, she looks back at the people who helped get her to where she is now.

She reflects on what her dad taught her, as she said, “With tennis, I think with help from my dad, he definitely taught me more life lessons than really anything. He taught me how to be more coachable as a person, and I think it wasn’t until I went to California that I really learned how much of an impact that really had on men, and I really want to thank you for that... But really, what he taught me the most was there are good days and bad days and you’ve got to roll with the punches and even if things don’t go right, you’ve got to get up and give 110% no matter what.”

Congratulations to Gabriella, and we wish her the best of luck.
