The Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) approved 2023-2024 school year calendar, which was developed by the GCPS Calendar Committee, is now available for review on the public relations page of our website. The Calendar Committee met two times and consisted of 20 members representing parents, staff, administrators, a Board member, and the Student Board member.
The calendar boasts a post-Labor Day start, with students returning to school on September 5, 2023, and school tentatively ending on June 7, 2024. There are professional development days scheduled for each month. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held once, on January 31, 2024, tentatively planned to occur from 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM. All major holidays are also school holidays. Additional holidays include October 13 and November 27, 2023, and March 28 and April 2, 2024.
There are ten make-up days built into the calendar: November 27, 2023; January 15, February 19, March 28, April 1 and 2; and June 10, 11, 12, and 13, 2024. Virtual Learning Days may be implemented in lieu of a traditional inclement weather closure. Additionally, the 91st day of school will be a planned Asynchronous Virtual Day. Please note there is pending state legislation that may move Election Day from April 23, 2024, to May 14, 2023. This will be announced via standard media outlets if this movement occurs. As in past practice, make-up days are tentative and will be determined by the GCBOE.
