Denver City Council member Amanda Sawyer wants to make something perfectly clear: The council does not vote to give itself raises. The issue was discussed Monday during the city Charter Review Committee meeting. It is spelled out in the city charter that the council must pass in ordinance form raises for elected officials every four years. The raises can be the average of city employee raises over four years or they can be tired to the Consumer Price Index, whichever is less. The council passes the raises ordinance for the incoming class of elected officials, not for themselves.
