Apple TV hit show Ted Lasso returns for a third — and yes, final — season (we think) as Jason Sudeikis gets ready to lead AFC Richmond for another 12 episodes.

Starting in March of 2023, Apple TV will release one episode a week across two months until the finale is up at the end of May, concluding (for now) the story behind the former American football head coach turned soccer manager.

The show centers around the titular character Ted Lasso, who moves from Kansas to the United Kingdom with zero soccer experience to coach fictional club AFC Richmond. Lasso learns the game on the fly, stumbling on many occasions but leaning on his upbeat personality and his relationship building skills to tackle the many challenges that come his way.

The Sporting News has everything you need to know about Season 3 of the show plus all we know about the possibility of more Ted Lasso to come, in either the form of an additional season of the main show or spin-off content which could follow various supporting characters in a lead role.

How many seasons in Ted Lasso?

Ted Lasso is currently scheduled for three seasons , and nothing more.

The hit show on Apple TV has not been renewed or lengthened for any more seasons. However, it's clear that the streaming service has a real decision on their hands given the popularity of the show, as all parties involved have indicated they are thinking long and hard about the future possibilities of the show.

Still, Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis did indicate that there will be significant closure at the end of Season 3. "This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell," Sudeikis revealed in an interview with Deadline in early March, 2023. That echoes his sentiment from two years prior, telling Entertainment Weekly the same thing back in June of 2021.

Sudeikis would go on to say that while this was the original plan from the start, the popularity of the show could push them to create additional content once the season has concluded. At the moment, however, nothing has been finalized beyond the third, and currently final, season of the show on Apple TV.

Will there be a Ted Lasso season 4?

As of the Season 3 release, there are no plan for a Season 4 of Ted Lasso, but various individuals have admitted that plan could change.

Jason Sudeikis, who is the lead actor of the show playing titular character Ted Lasso, has gone on record stating that while they stuck to their original three-season plan from the beginning, the show's popularity could cause them to reconsider once Season 3 has fully released.

British actor Jeremy Swift, who plays AFC Richmond staff member Leslie Higgins, admitted that "nobody knows" whether there will be more Ted Lasso seasons to come.  “Literally everybody asks it," Swift said in an interview with The Express last November, "and I think the only person who can give an answer is Jason. And I don’t think even he knows.”

In the same vein, actress Hannah Waddingham, who plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton, said she asked Sudeikis about the possibility of further Ted Lasso seasons, and received a similar sentiment — probably, but you never know. "I asked him [Sudeikis] recently," Waddingham told E! News last July. "And he went, 'Yeah, I think so, for now.' And I was like, 'OK.'" Waddingham added that she wants more, saying she's "genuinely gutted" by the show coming to a close after three seasons.

When will Ted Lasso end?

The Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso — which, for now at least, serves as the series finale — will be released on Apple TV on May 31, 2023 .

The episode, which is one of three in the 12-episode season that does not yet have an officially released title, will bring Ted Lasso to a close and provide an ending to one of the most popular U.S. shows of the last three years.

Will there be Ted Lasso spinoff?

As of now, no additional Ted Lasso content has been officially announced, but star Jason Sudeikis did admit there could be something down the road.

"Yeah, I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks, to get to watch the further telling of these stories," Sudeikis said in his March interview with Deadline when asked about the possibility of spin-off content. "Again, I can’t help but take the question as flattery for what all of us that were working on the show has tried to do. It’s really kind of folks to even consider that because you never know what’s gonna happen when you make things. The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different avenue is lovely."

Depending on how the story concludes at the end of Season 3, a few characters could be primed for additional spin-off content. One fan favorite and prime spin-off candidate could be Coach Beard, played by actor Brendan Hunt, who has parlayed his place on the show into a visible position as an American soccer fan.

Other characters who will be considered candidates for spin-off content include Roy Kent, AFC Richmond midfielder turned coach played by Brett Goldstein; Jamie Tartt, the hot-headed AFC Richmond striker played by Phil Dunster; Nathan Shelley, the heel-turned former AFC Richmond kit man played by Nick Mohammed; and Keeley Jones, the AFC Richmond marketing lead played by Juno Temple.
