More than 1.2 million autumn-themed candles sold at Walmart recalled over fire hazards

More than 1.2 million Mainstays Three-Wick Candles have been recalled due to fire and laceration hazards, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Thursday.

The candles were sold exclusively at Walmart in seven different Halloween and autumn-themed scents. The products are being recalled by their manufacturer, Star Soap Star Candle Prayer Candle.

According to the CPSC, the candle wicks in the recalled products "can burn too close to the side of the container, causing the glass to break."

There have been 12 reports of these incidents. One consumer experienced a minor cut and multiple others reported damage to nearby items. There has also been one report of a fire, the CPSC said.

The CPSC urges consumers who own the recalled Mainstays Three-Wick Candles to stop using them immediately and contact Star Soap Star Candle Prayer Candle for a full refund.

What do the recalled candles look like?

The Mainstays Three-Wicked Candles that are being recalled include seven different Halloween and autumn-themed scents: Jack-O-Lantern, Mystic Fog, Warm Apple Pie, Warm Fall Leaves, Fall Farm House, Pumpkin Spice and Magic Potion.

According to the CPSC's release, the recalled products came in 14-ounce jars with a metal lid. The candles measure about 4 inches long by 4 inches wide.

The candles were sold at Walmart stores across the country from September 2022 through November 2022.
