MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 3 (2023): Director Nia Vardalos Enjoyed Making Third Film in Comedy Series

Nia Vardalos Has Incredible Time Filming Sequel

Nia Vardalos is back with the new upcoming film in her My Big Fat Greek Wedding series and it has been reported that she truly loved making the movie.

It has been some 7 years since My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 took a bit of a stumble at the box-office but audiences liked it a lot and graded the movie a very respectable “A-” CinemaScore. Could the third time be the charm and the follow-up film make more money at the box-office than the $59 million earned by the second movie in the franchise? It could happen. The first My Big Fat Greek Wedding was something of a Cinderella story earning $241 million at the domestic box-office. It was released back in 2002. While the sequel only made a quarter of that gross, Nia Vardalos, the film’s star, had an “incredible” time working with John Corbett on the third picture.

Vardalos is also directing again with this latest installment (which she is the star of) and she was happy to be the one helming My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. The actress likes to hire female crew members to work on projects and was excited to bring women onboard her latest movie venture. Since Vardalos’s movies tend to appeal to a mostly female audience, it is only appropriate she should help hire women to work on these films.

It has been reported that Vardalos enjoyed dancing on a pier with John Corbett for the new movie which is due out in theaters this year on September 8th. It is expected to at least match the $59 million earned by the sophomore effort in the popular series. That’s because the great first movie has been discovered by even more people throughout the past seven years since the second movie made its way to DVD, streaming, etc.

In 2009, Vardalos took a fall at the box-office with My Life in Ruins where she played opposite screen veteran Richard Dreyfuss. That movie only earned $8 million domestically and audiences didn’t love it as much as the original My Big Fat Greek Wedding which was truly a phenomenon. With the second movie in the Greek Wedding series, she climbed her way back up and could find herself victorious again if My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 does at least $75 million domestically which is a definite possibility.

It was the original intention that My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 would have gone into production in 2020. However, the pandemic got in the way of that which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as some viewers caught up with both films during the course of being in lock down.

The shooting location for the third film was Athens, Greece where Vardalos and company spent several months filming the soon-to-be-released picture. This film has all the ingredients to be a huge success and Vardalos certainly won’t forget the wonderful experience she had making it.
