(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago City Council committees on Thursday heard from companies that previewed technology they say can limit the spread of COVID-19 in enclosed spaces.

The Technology and Health panels heard from companies that have developed devices they say can be used in schools, hospitals and workplaces to kill COVID-19 in the air.

Tech committee chair Gilbert Villegas said it’s important for officials to be aware of the latest products as the city moves forward.

The presentations included overviews offered by Jay Franks, manager of RestoreAir LLC, who said its product uses ultra violet light and other materials to send hydrogen peroxide molecules into rooms. That cleanses the air, Franks said.

ActivePure representatives described similar technology. Elaine Sharp of RideShield for Ride Share outlined a vinyl barrier that can be used in cabs and other cars to create separate spaces.

No decisions were made at the joint hearing. The idea was to gather information about the anti-COVID technologies.
