Man critically hurt during Sammamish home invasion

SAMMAMISH, Wash. — A man was taken to the hospital after he was shot during a home invasion robbery at a Sammamish home.

King County deputies were called to a home near the corner of Northeast Second Street and 225th Avenue shortly after midnight Monday. The home is not far from Eastlake High School and the Sammamish campus of Central Washington University.

A man at the home was shot and was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

The suspects fled following the shooting and have not been found. Deputies have not said how many suspects were involved.

Those who live in the neighborhood say violent incidents there are unusual.

“We moved here because it’s a fantastically safe neighborhood. Nothing ever happens here,” said Shashank, a neighbor.

“A robbery is a different thing, but shooting someone is a whole different game plan,” said another neighbor, Preeti, who is consoling her son and daughter. “He was like, ‘Mama, this is scary.’ I said, ‘Please do not tell your sister because she’s just 8.’ I do not want her to walk out, feeling ‘Oh my God, what if somebody just comes up and shoots us?’”

It’s unclear if the home invasion was random or if the family was targeted. Detectives from the King County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating.

Some neighbors said they heard five or six gunshots. One neighbor said she assumed the sounds were fireworks until she heard police sirens.
