Woman tries to take back a towed, stolen SUV valued at $200K: Solon Police Blotter

SOLON, Ohio

Recovered stolen vehicle: U.S. 422

At 11:05 p.m. Jan. 28, an officer stopped a Mercedes Benz SUV for speeding as it traveled at 80 mph in a 60 mph zone on U.S. 422 eastbound.

The officer noticed that the vehicle registration number on the SUV did not match that of the driver’s registration. The SUV was towed and the driver, a Sheffield man, 41, was released after being cited for driving with fictitious plates.

The SUV was found to have been stolen from Houston.

Two days later, a Maple Heights woman, 32, went to the Solon police station to pick up the vehicle with paperwork she presented as proof of the the SUV’s ownership.

The paperwork was fraudulent, and the woman was arrested on charges of forgery, possessing criminal tools and engaging in certain acts involving certificate of title. All three charges are fifth-degree felonies.

The SUV’s value was estimated at $200,000.

Pandering obscenity: Flanders Drive

At 3:30 p.m. Jan. 31, a Solon teen girl reported that she had shared nude images of herself with someone on social media. The recipient of those images then used them to harass her online. The detective bureau is investigating.

Theft: Aurora Road

At 3:15 p.m. Jan. 31, a loss prevention employee of Giant Eagle, 34310 Aurora Road, stopped a teen boy after he walked out of the store with stolen goods. The teen agreed to go back into the store to wait for police.

The boy gave officers false personal information and stated that he was 16 years old, rather than 14. The Solon youth was turned over to his mother.

The theft totaled $16. The store did not pursue charges. However, police will refer a charge of obstructing official business to juvenile court.

Domestic violence: Arthur Road

At 7:50 p.m. Feb. 2, police were called to a home where the guardians of a girl, 14, said she had threatened them. The guardians are a man, 77, and his wife, 76.

The couple believed the girl might carry through with her threats.

Police took the girl into custody for domestic violence and referred her to juvenile court. The court put her in a diversion program and, as part of the program, police took her to the hospital for an assessment.

Breaking and entering: Kruse Drive

At 10:15 p.m. Feb. 3, an officer was conducting a business check at Davis Automotive, 6135 Kruse Drive, when he saw three young male suspects in the dark, beside a building. When spotted, the suspects ran.

The suspects got into a Dodge SUV and sped away with headlights off. The officer pursued as a high speed of 80 mph was attained on Bainbridge Road. The suspects then sped west on U.S. 422, where the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.

Police returned to the building and found a broken window. No property was reported stolen.

OVI: Richmond Road

At 9:15 p.m. Feb. 3, an officer stopped a car for a marked lanes violation. In the car were two adults in the front seat and five children in the back seat. The officer smelled the odor of marijuana inside the car and had all of its occupants get out so a search could be conducted.

Inside the car, police found a small amount of marijuana.

The driver, a Bedford Heights woman, 33, was found to have a blood-alcohol content of .074, below the state minimum for drunk driving of .08.

The children were picked up by people who knew the driver, who drove up in another car.

Police cited the Bedford Heights woman for OVI, driving under suspension and driving outside of marked lanes. The woman also provided a urine sample. Further charges are pending.

The car was turned over to the passenger, a Euclid woman, 32, who was not charged.

OVI: U.S. 422

At 3:55 p.m. Feb. 4, an officer stopped a car for speeding on eastbound U.S. 422. The car was traveling 89 mph in the 60 mph zone.

The driver, an Aurora woman, 28, had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. An open mini-bottle of wine was seen in the car’s cup holder.

The woman failed field sobriety tests and was found to have a BAC of .127. Police charged the woman with OVI, having a prohibited BAC, speeding, driving with expired plates and improper change of course.
