One Insider Sees Bears Windfall with Trade

In the opinion of ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Bears will be able to rake in a 'small fortune' in  draft picks from a trade down and will have numerous offers.

It's only opinion and he admitted it's not something he'd looked into seriously yet with sources.

Nevertheless, ESPN's Adam Schefter excited a great many Bears fans Wednesday when he suggested the team they follow is going to get tremendous offers to move back by teams looking to get the first pick for a quarterback.

"That pick is going to be worth a small fortune and the Bears are holding a lottery ticket if they want to cash it in," Schefter said while making an appearance on AM-1000's Waddle and Silvy.

If GM Ryan Poles is looking for one of the first two defensive linemen in the draft, moving down to take a package offering numerous draft picks is going to require moving down to fourth or later. They're unlikely to get that kind of a return on a pick so close to where they pick.

In that case, would they be able to take one of the top two elite defensive linemen then? It's unlikely.

They could but it's also possible the Houston Texans would cross everyone up and take a defensive lineman like the Arizona Cardinals likely will. In that case, moving down to No. 4 in a trade with Indianapolis would leave the Bears on the outside looking in at the top two defensive linemen.

"I can just tell you right now, that the Bears are going to have the opportunity to listen to some unbelievable offers for the No. 1 pick," Schefter said. "And they're gonna have the chance to parlay that one pick—that came as a benefit from the Houston Texans, playing a game that they never should have won—into a bevy of future picks that can set up that franchise for years to come."

WADDLE & SILVY TALK WITH ADAM SCHEFTER

Again Schefter admitted he hadn't done any legwork on this thought so it was more or less his opinion.

It's a popular opinion and the irony behind it all is that if it really does happen and works out the way Schefter said with the Bears being set for the future, it will be thanks to Lovie Smith and the win he coached the Texans to over the Colts in the season ender.
