CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — The Harrison County Commission on Wednesday approved a proposal for assessments relating to an Animal Control facility and a request for proposals for consulting services relating to a youth barn facility project.
The commission approved moving forward with the first part of a two-part contract with McKinley Architecture and Engineering relating to the Animal Control facility.
Commissioners would like to either renovate the current facility or construct a new one for Harrison County Animal Control.
The first task under the contract includes a facilities assessment to compare costs associated with renovating the current facility to constructing a new one. The cost for the assessment is $5,000.
Once work is complete on the first task, commissioners will consider moving forward with task two, which includes design and construction administration services. The price tag for task two would be 8% of construction costs, plus “standard reimbursable expenses.”
On a 2-1 vote, commissioners approved a notice for proposals for consultant services to evaluate site location and design of a regional farm recreation facility. The new request for proposals is more limited in scope than a previously issued one.
The commissioners opted to limit the site evaluation to the county-owned property off W.Va. 279.
Commissioner David Hinkle voted against the request for proposals, saying he believes it included “more stuff than I thought it should” and that it would be unnecessarily expensive.
In other business, the commission:
— Approved the purchase of a police cruiser to help replace those lost in vehicle accidents. The money will come from a capital outlay line item until it can be reimbursed with insurance money once it is received.
The sheriff has 12 cruisers on order, but they have yet to arrive and are not expected until at least April, according to County Administrator Laura Pysz-Laulis. The cruisers will then have to be outfitted for use.
— Gave a property owner 30 days to make improvements to their property during a public nuisance property hearing.
— Issued a proclamation to the United Way for National 211 Day.
