A Lane County man has been arrested in a murder-for-hire scheme.

Officials with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office say they received information on Friday, February 3, that 58-year-old John Robert Clarke offered to pay a 3rd party an undisclosed amount of money to kill a person known to Clarke.

An investigation determined probable cause to arrest Clarke for solicitation to commit murder.

Detectives with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office took Clarke into custody, and he was taken to the Lane County Jail.

Officials say they believe there is no ongoing threat to the public or the victim in this case.
