CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Mt. Olive Cemetery Historical Preservation Society invites the entire community to their Black History Month presentation: “Life as a USCT,” on Saturday, Feb, 11, at 1 p.m., at the Fort Defiance Civil War Park & Interpretive Center.

The presentation will focus on the stories and life experiences of the United States Colored Troops (USCT), including those interred at Mt Olive Cemetery, one of Clarksville’s oldest and largest African American burial grounds.

In addition to the presentation, they have invited the public to view and enjoy the new USCT monument, which was unveiled on June 18, 2022, in an official community ceremony. Also, they will have the opportunity to view and enjoy the new historical panels that surround the monument. These panels were funded through the Nashville Predators Foundation Helper Grant Program, and they help tell the story of the USCT.

The Society will also offer tours of Mt. Olive Cemetery to all attendees, with the chance to view three new historical panels placed throughout the cemetery, as well as six new benches, all funded through the Nashville Predators Foundation Helper Grant Program.
