Pitt’s highly successful month of March continued Monday as 2024 three-star safety Tayshawn Banks became Pitt’s latest commit. Banks (6-foot, 170 pounds) attends Taft High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and was recruited by defensive coordinator Randy Bates, along with Pat Narduzzi and Cory Sanders. And the coaching staff as a whole was a big reason for his commitment.

Pitt Football Receives Commitment from 2024 3-Star Athlete Tayshawn Banks

Pitt has added four commits over the last week, including Eric Ingwerson, Tayshawn Banks and Zachary Crothers, but there’s one commit who hasn’t been announced yet. As Pitt has racked up commitments this month, with the unnamed commit serving as the sixth, it’s historic territory for the coaching staff. Over the last decade, Pitt hasn’t even come close to landing this many commits before the calendar shifts to April.

The whole Cooley family made the two-hour trip down I-79 earlier this week, traveling from Erie to Pittsburgh in order for Jiavani Cooley to check out Pitt. It was different this time though. It was his fourth time coming to Pitt. He knew he wanted to commit to Pitt this time, but he also wanted to run it by his family before he did so. They, of course, agreed with him.

Jiavani Cooley may not have been well-known to Pitt fans before he announced his commitment, but that’s going to change in a big way over the next few days. Cooley, a 6-foot-6, 265-pound three-star offensive tackle from Erie Cathedral Prep in Erie, Pennsylvania, officially committed to Pitt Saturday afternoon, adding the first offensive lineman to the class of 2024 — the seventh overall.
