Drunken Hinckley driver doesn’t ‘do alphabet all of the time’: Broadview Heights Police Blotter

BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio

Drunken driving: Interstate 77

On Jan. 17, police observed a speeding black BMW make illegal lane shifts and nearly hit another vehicle while traveling south on I-77.

While talking to the driver, the officer smelled alcohol. The man, who appeared to be chewing gum in an unsuccessful attempt to mask the smell of booze, told the officer that he had just left Parma and was headed to his home in Hinckley Township.

After failing a field sobriety test, which included him telling the officer, “I don’t do my alphabet all of the time,” the man was arrested for drunken driving.

He was also cited for speeding and not using turn signal.

Vandalism: Broadview Road

On Jan. 11, police were dispatched to the city’s splash pad/playground after an employee reported finding spray-painted graffiti on two city signs and a light post.

While the city does have surveillance cameras in the area, the incidents weren’t captured. There are no suspects. Police are investigating.

Fraud: Broadview Road

On Jan. 11, an apartment complex employee went to the police station after discovering fraudulent activity regarding two safety deposit checks sent to former rental property tenants.

The man said one check for $1,125 was cashed by a different individual. Another check, written out for $1,430, was altered and cashed for $5,000. There are no suspects. Police are investigating.
