Resident calls police after $2,500 check is altered and cashed: Brecksville Police Blotter

BRECKSVILLE, Ohio

Fraud: Crosswinds Lane

On Jan. 5, a Crosswinds Lane resident came to the police station to report a fraud.

An officer talked to the man, who said he had power of attorney over his mother. The son said the issue was related to a $2,500 check he wrote and mailed in late November.

It wasn’t until a few days earlier that he discovered that the check had been altered and cashed.

Fidelity Investments was investigating the fraud claim. The officer did trace the new name on the check to a Cleveland man, who had numerous vehicles under his name. However, a search of license plate cameras didn’t yield any clues.

Police are investigating.
